JOURNAL TOPIC:
Why do you feel tired so often? Since I assume most people know how to
address being tired (sleep, rest, reduce stress, eat better, etc.), what
is preventing you from living in a way that sustains your positive
energy throughout the day?
AGENDA:
1. Journal
2(a). Watch Mike Wallace (of eventual "60 Minutes" fame) interview Aldous Huxley
2(b). In an essay-let (essayito?) of 1-3 paragraphs, please comment to this post and cite 3-5 ideas from the talk to support your validation or refutation of the following claim:
We are living in the Brave New World.

Apologies for a late, but needed comment. I support Aldous Huxley's position in the argument that we are living in The Brave New World, why, you may ask? Well, he mentioned that less and less freedom was a key sign of it, right now, as we facepalms ourselves as our idiot of a president falls off the deep end, these facts don't seem so far off anymore. We begin to see that there is an overpopulation problem, as well, just like A.H. said. He aslo said that drugs will be used for pharmaceutical reasons, like anti-depressants, or psychedelics, and that people will have higher standards of living. All of these things are exactly what he had mentiomed in the interview, while the host had laughed and questioned him for that very reason. Although he made good points, Aldous had some ideas that were rather, seemingly unlikely, but hey, who's to say it won't happen? For example, he mentioned that communism would take over the U.S. is it falls, it hasn't happened, but could it? He also mentioned that we could also be overrun by totalitarianism, which again, could happen, but hasn't.
ReplyDeleteWith all that Aldous has said in the video, I can't do much but agree with him and deal with the fact that we are indeed living in the "Brave New World". With the mention of the overpopulation situation and drug use, Huxley very well describes the modern age. It may have seem outlandish at the time which may be the reason it was made possible today because no precautions were taken to prevent such things.
ReplyDeleteHuxley comes to talk about how a dictator or someone in power will come and push always towards less and less freedom and he say one key factor that will help out in that will be technology. He also explains that we should keep an eye out for technology because it keeps advancing at a fast pace. He also says that pharmaceutical drugs will soon hit like a wave and it will not change our state of mind . He also says that we will soon face over population in which fact we did. Aldous said so many things in this video that you can see playing out in today’s “Brave New World”
ReplyDeleteIn Huxleys way of seeing our society it is reasonable to think that our Country may or May not end up as a communism community. It’s not much that has happened in Out world today but just fails from such a stubborn president. Not much has been going on action , our society is still the same. So how could we re-establish the integrity of each human individual? It not also depends on ourselves but the influencers and/or leaders in our community. The organization of the U.S .
ReplyDeleteFron the notes that i took he seemed to push the idea that our freedom will not be taken from us over night but gradually over time. Siddle changes to the rules of this country will be made so that by the time we notice that it's all taken away from us it will be to late. If someone wants to keep there power all they really need to do is control the people and make them believe the thing you do are the best as seen through Hitler, stalin, and Kim Jan. People here will think"o how could they have been so foolish and fall for his words" but our president now is making the immigration situation seem like an act of terrorism. A lot of what Aldron Huxley says is slowing happening to us now.
ReplyDeleteAldous Huxley explains the world we’re living so vividly from countries having over population, technology being too advanced and it would make people wanna do things they don’t want to do, he thinks they’re are good drugs like prescription drugs that’ll make people could take at small doses to make them feel better but not like cocaine, he also mentioned not fit candidates that look good in tv but not the greatest In political terms and lastly he mentions how the U.S brainwashing is different compared to how Japan does it because Japan is just straight up about but the U.S uses propaganda to brainwash people.
ReplyDeleteAldous Huxley talks to Mike Wallace about threats to freedom in the United States, overpopulation, bureaucracy, propaganda, drugs, advertising, and television.
ReplyDeleteThe novel that Huxley wrote, "The Brave New World" which predicted that some day the entire world will live under a frightful dictatorship. Huxley said that this fictional horror is probably around the corner for all of us.
Huxley talked about this impersonal force that can take away individual's freedom and also the presence of some technological devices which anybody can use to speed up the process of taking away that individual's freedom. Overpopulation is already taking place in the US right now Drugs are now being sold in pharmaceutical stores. Advertising gives us false information (sometimes) which sometimes hooks people who are struggling. Televisions which mostly all of the Americans have in their homes are now affecting the minds of the young ones. News media are now reporting about the scandals about the government which are not suitable for their young minds.
On the video we watched yesterday during class named “A Brave New World” it was based on a book. Mike Wallace had an interview with Aldous Huxley and they discussed a variety of issues. The things that popped out for me during the film, we’re over population, over organization, and modern devices. When he was talking about over population, he mentioned that something was happening that never happened before. It doubled from 250 million to 500 million it was going in a fast rate. He also said it would double in half a century at the rate it’s going. He also said, that under developed countries have less to eat and less goods available.
ReplyDeleteAnother issue he discussed was over organization. He stated, as technology becomes more and more complicated, it becomes more necessary to elaborate better organization. He also mentioned that we have more and more people living in subordinate systems of big business and government. The advanced technology helps in the advance of organization. With these device we will reach more organization we never reached before.
Lastly he mentioned that we developed mordern devices every day but don’t know how to use them. He related Noreen devices with propaganda with Hitler. Hitler used mordern propaganda to his own advantage. With this modern technology he was able to impose on a large mass of people. His point is there are superior methods that can be used but for the wrong reasons. All these technology can change us for the better or for the worse of us.
“What’s the point of doing anything in private? It may has as well have never happened” the quote i would assume that will take place on social media and pressing share. Its meaningless we see it for a moment it inspire us and we just press the like button and then forget about it. He also mentions about technology, we are using it wrong to distract us, now in this day we now have phones that we carry right on our faces. What he is saying is true and it’s bound to happen. We are diminishing our own freedom. Obviously no one is taking action on this. It’s being ignored. So what I have to say to this is Oh well🤷♂️. If everyone is aware of this and continue to ignore it then, what will be the end of our diminishing freedom?
ReplyDeleteI believe and agree that now in 2019 we are living in the new brave world because Hexley mentioned several thoughts like the cominos party, new devices, technology etc. So yes the breve new world is now in 2019.
ReplyDeleteIn 2019 there is so many going on lets look at a the political party for example we have Donald Trump as president. Maybe not the best choice...right? but a perfect example of the new brave world. We have new devices every month let's look at the cell phone for example they are developing so much every month, maybe in only two mothers theres a new cell phone and there were are buy and being addicted. Technology something that has developed so so much now we could talk to a friends, familys, technically we could have contact with anyone all around the world, and even see them with all of that advance technology we have in 2019. But do we really know how to use this technology that we have? Are we using it correctly or are we just using it how ever.
So you see we are living the new brave world... we don't really put thoughts into what we do, and that is something that dose affects our wrold. We shold think about our wrold and about the choices we make. We need to be brave since we are living in the new brave world. You only have one live, live it the best you can. And be braver the the brave wrold
I strongly agree with Huxley because he says that devices are upgrading every time and we the people have the fault that our own country has become this way because where living but with our eyes close because we see all this and believe it's doing a good in us but actually we are choosing the wrongest decisions. In my opinion i think Huxley means that as technology grows we won't be able to do anything because even robots will take our place and we will end up being nothing.
ReplyDeleteIn the aldous huxely interview i agree that we are in a brave new world because television has benn used to overpower people, with influences of the news. Also because tech can be used foe good things and bad things like saving peoples lives wich the other bad thing tech could be used for it to kill people. Well whats alos true is about over population many countries already have been over poplulated. Tech always improve which could be a bad and good thing as i already explianed.
